Even in India’s kaleidoscope of cultures and landscapes, the north east is arguably the most diverse and certainly the least frequented region of all. Bustling cities, gentle tea gardens, monasteries and wonderful tribal settlements as well as the most superb wildlife parks will fill your days on your journey through this remarkable land.

CALCUTTA

Start your journey exploring this fascinating city where the banks of the Hooghly River are decorated with vibrant flower markets. Experience beautiful Botanical Gardens and visit the Victoria Memorial and India Museum to view the blend of colonial and Bengali cultures.

FLY TO THE TEA GARDENS

In Dibrugarh, your hotel is the perfect spot to tour a tea estate and discover the origin and culture of tea. Next day your driver will take you to the Dibru-Saikhowa National Park on the southern bank of the mighty Brahmaputra River. A gentle boat cruise will take you downstream to view many rare and endangered species of birds. Lunch on a river island resort before heading back to your hotel. The next day your cruise meanders through water channels until you reach the river island resort of Majuli famed for its culture, monasteries and tribal settlements. Back to the mainland, and on to Jorhat, tea capital of Assam.

KAZIRANGA NATIONAL PARK

Situated in the eastern state of Assam, Kaziranga is wonderfully fertile and famed for its great Indian one-horned rhinoceros. Game viewing by elephant and jeep is a unique experience. Complete your visit with a nature trek in the Panbari range.

SHILLONG

Day begins with a drive to see the breathtaking view from Shillong Peak, returning via Elephant Falls. An afternoon experiencing the Khasi tribal market place run by the womenfolk. Next day, as you drive to Cherrapunjee you will have spectacular views of deep gorges, rolling hills luxurious with tropical vegetation as befits an area with reputedly the heaviest rainfall in the world. Fascinating cave systems with beautiful stalactite and stalagmite formations are there to explore.
