The Big Five game term was coined by big game hunters and refers to the five most difficult animals to hunt on foot but now widely used by the game viewing tourists and safari tour operators.
These animals are the lion, leopard, black rhinoceros, African bush elephant, and African buffalo.
They are examples of charismatic mega fauna, featuring prominently in popular culture, and are among the most famous of Africa’s large animals.
ITINERARY
Day 1 Nairobi to Amboseli
Pick up from your hotel or residence in Nairobi latest by 0830hrs then drive to Amboseli to arrive in time for lunch. Afternoon at leisure and weather permitting enjoy guided bush walks in KITIRUA CONSERVANCY returning to the lidge before dark. After dinner you will enjoy night game drive (shared scheduled game drives) in the conservancy, a chance to see nocturnal wild animals.
Overnight at TAWI LODGE.
Day 2 Full day in Amboseli
Early wake up to enjoy the best views of the peak of Mount Kilimanjaro from the lodge. After breakfast, depart with lunch boxes for unlimited full day game drive in AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK with picnic lunch at the OBSERVATION HILL. Dinner and overnight at TAWI LODGE.
Day 3 Amboseli to Aberdares
After early breakfast, depart Amboseli (latest by 0800hrs) driving back to Nairobi where you will enjoy an early lunch at EKA HOTEL or similar. From 1330hrs drive further North of Nairobi past Thika town to arrive in the early evening hours where you will transfer in lodge vehicles to the tree lodge. Enjoy overnight game viewing experience from the comfort of your balcony as wild animals frequent the floodlit waterhole. Dinner and overnight at THE ARK LODGE.
Day 4 Aberdares to Samburu
After early breakfast, depart Amboseli (latest by 0800hrs) driving back to Nairobi where you will enjoy an early lunch at EKA HOTEL or similar. From 1330hrs drive further North of Nairobi past Thika town to arrive in the early evening hours where you will transfer in lodge vehicles to the tree lodge. Enjoy overnight game viewing experience from the comfort of your balcony as wild animals frequent the floodlit waterhole. Dinner and overnight at THE ARK LODGE.
Day 5 Full day Samburu
After breakfast enjoy full day with morning and evening game drives in SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE. Dinner and overnight at ELEPHANT BEDROOM CAMP.
Day 6 Samburu to Lake Nakuru
After breakfast, check out with lunch box enjoying a brief game drive in SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE. Depart Samburu by 1000hrs driving back to Nanyuki where you will stop over at the EQUATOR. Drive further past Nyahururu to arrive Nakuru in the late afternoon hours. (optional stop over at Thomson Falls in Nyahururu with entry to be paid directly). Rest of the day at leisure with dinner and overnight at MBWEHA SAFARI CAMP.
Day 6 Samburu to Lake Nakuru
After breakfast, check out with lunch box enjoying a brief game drive in SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE. Depart Samburu by 1000hrs driving back to Nanyuki where you will stop over at the EQUATOR. Drive further past Nyahururu to arrive Nakuru in the late afternoon hours. (optional stop over at Thomson Falls in Nyahururu with entry to be paid directly). Rest of the day at leisure with dinner and overnight at MBWEHA SAFARI CAMP.
Day 7 Full day Lake Nakuru
After breakfast, depart with lunch boxes to enjoy unlimited /full day game drive in LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK from 0830hrs till 1800hrs with picnic lunch on the cliff. Dinner and overnight at MBWEHA SAFARI CAMP.
Day 8 Lake Nakuru National Park to Masai Mara
After breakfast, depart Nakuru by 0800hrs driving via Naivasha with stop over at the base town of Narok. Proceed to arrive Masai Mara for lunch. Afternoon at leisure and from 1600hrs enjoy early evening game drive in MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE. Dinner and overnight at TIPILIKWANI MARA CAMP.
Day 9 Full day in Masai Mara
After breakfast, depart with lunch boxes for unlimited full day game drive in MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE (picnic lunch for this option) or opt for traditional morning and eveing game drive with lunch at the camp restaurant. On this day either enjoy sundowner in the evening or opt for bush dinner (minimum of 4 pax apply for bush dinner). Dinner and overnight at TIPILIKWANI MARA CAMP.
Day 10 Masai Mara to Nairobi
After breakfast, check out and drive back to Nairobi arriving for lunch at CARNIVORE RESTAURANT. Thereafter, drop off at your hotel within Nairobi or transfer to JOMO KENYATTA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT for your onward international flight connection.
